Hair quick fixes

You are ploughing through loads of file work and suddenly your boss announces, "We will have a business lunch at the Hyatt. Leaving in 5 minutes."
Flustered you head to the washroom and rush meets disaster! Your hair looks frizzy and it's all over the place. You scream, "Heeeeeeeeeeellllppp!"

We heard your cry, read on…

For short hair

If you have short hair, but long enough to tie up, back comb it. Stand before the mirror with your head bent forward and comb it from back to front. It will give your hair an after-shampoo kind of bounce.

If your hair is very short, just comb it in wide outward strokes.

For medium-length hair

If you have shoulder length hair or slightly longer, use a wooden comb so your hair doesn't get unnecessarily frizzy due to plastic triggered static.

Keep a small bottle of dry shampoo in your office drawer always, for days like these. This miracle potion will dispel limp and dull-looking hair. Quickly apply the dry shampoo. It will soak all the greasiness and you don't even need to wash your hair after applying it.

If your hair is wavy or curly, just wet it and dry it out with your fingers, not combing it while you dry. It will settle into curls naturally.

Long tresses

Long hair on a bad hair day is perhaps the most troublesome. If you think it's too unmanageable, clip it up on top of your head, like you do when you go for a bath.

If that is not an option, use an anti-frizz cream or serum (keep one along with your hair dryer at work) to smooth out rough strands.

If you have a few extra minutes, blow-dry your hair, combing it straight and curling it slightly at the ends. The effect will be much better than you'll expect.

Alternately, keep a compact hair-straightening iron handy. Pass your hair through it for a well-groomed appearance.

Who says a bad-hair day can pull you down? With these quick fixes, you can flaunt your mane, come what may!

10 tips to dress slimmer

Do you often ask your friends or boyfriend, "Am I looking fat?" Out of sheer courtesy or fear of bearing the brunt of your anger, they just reply politely, "No darling."

But you refuse to believe them. Not so pleasant thoughts about your body image keep niggling at the back of your mind.

Now, you don't have to ask anyone for an opinion. We give you some tips to create that perfect illusion of being slim-trim.

Boat necks

Don't shy away from boat necks and V-necks if you are well-endowed. These make your upper body appear slimmer.

Wear your hair right

Some of us have been adding on the pounds to our face. For a slimmer look, get a sexy haircut and flaunt your tresses. Tie up your hair in a high pony and let some strands loose on your face. This makes the face appear slimmer.

The pear-shaped figure

This is the classic Indian body shape and to balance out the weight, wear pants that aren't totally body hugging. Flared hems and boot cut styles also having a balancing effect.

The apple shaped body

Some of us have a belly bulge we'd like to hide and to do that make sure you don't wear pants with pleats or with any extra material around the waist such as elastic or draw-string waists.

Wear tops that don't just skim the top of your pants but cover at least a couple of inches. This hides your belly well and elongates your torso too.

Vertical stripes

It's a long known fact that as opposed to horizontal stripes, vertical ones have slimming and lengthening effect. But ensure the stripes are not bold or else it will have the opposite effect!

Low-waisted pants

Wear your pants so they sit low on your hips. This makes your hips and belly decrease in size and both the apple and the pear shaped body appear more slender.

Flat front pants and ones with side zippers are good too.

Clothes that fit

Some of us seem to have an illusion that if we wear clothes that aren't the perfect fit will make us look slimmer.

Clothes that are too tight make you look like you squeezed yourself into an outfit; clothes that are too loose are shapeless and make you appear bulkier.

Single colour

Black always makes anyone appear slimmer but don't avoid color altogether. Wear a single color on the top and bottom for a long lean look.

Get wrapped

Wrap-around tops and dresses are foolproof fashion saviours for a sexy hour-glass bode. Get a few empire-line blouses and pretty frocks to hide the flab and bring on the girly you.

A for accessories

Get those long waist-length (well almost) neckpieces and interesting pendants. Long chains give the illusion of a lean frame. And, high heels are a must; if you can't walk in high heels, even a one inch heel would do as long as you appear taller and slimmer.

Once you know which part of your body is the problem area, you can dress accordingly. Lastly, wear a smile as you put a stylish- foot forward!

Why girls love shoes?

In the Top 10 list of un-comprehendible female behaviour, a woman's relentless, unsatiated love for shoes is a chartbuster!
Who says shoe fetish is a...umm...fetish? Shoes and more shoes are a necessity for the survival of a fashionista's closet. A woman's shoe fetish can have the men nodding their heads in their typical 'I give up on you' sort of way.

But that doesn't mean, you have to give up on that whim of buying another pair. We give you enough reasons to get that much coveted pair.

'Step into my shoes'

Tell that to your man the next time he says something like 'not again' when you've gone shoe shopping. After all, isn't the footwear the final make or break factor?

Studies show that most women think their shoes speak volumes about their personalities. So, it's only natural to put your best foot forward.

Shoe stopper

There are also tons of studies in which women have admitted to buying shoes that don't even fit them or like runaway brides, their passion for a particular pair fizzles out while it is still wrapped in its plastic.

Hot this season, are kitten heels in offbeat colours like peach and mauve. A pair of pencil heels with delicate straps will be a good buy too, apart from slip-ons that have come back with a bang!

Absolutely flat slip-ons are popular these days. Tie-ups have faded out, so we'd suggest you leave those out for a few months.

Miss goody two shoes

A pair of Pretty woman kinda boots is a must-have in your shoe rack. You never know when you might want to wear a short dress and look a little retro. Basic black spiky heels are as quintessential as the LBD and will never go out of vogue.

High heels in at least four different colours is every woman's birth right! Have a couple of pairs that are absolutely crazy and might not even match any outfit from your wardrobe. These are for those I, me, myself days. Wedges keep coming and going so a pair or two in classic creams or browns won't hurt either.

So, now you know why all of we women have shoes, shoes and more shoes on our shopping list!
